Pushing Through The Perils of Teaching Online

Interesting post (and discussion thread) in the Chronicle's ProfHacker blog about teaching online. Many, many things that went wrong and could have been done better. Plus, as an instructional designer, I wonder what type of support - planning, technical, etc., the writer had going in... Thoughts?…

John, it looks like I got the message inside the group. But it also came to my work email automatically. I had just registered and had not even loged in when I got it. I tried checking the membership to see who the person was and got, no member by that name exists. Here is the text of the message and email:

Good Day,

How is everything with you, I picked interest on you after going through your short profile and deemed it necessary to write you immediately. I have something very vital to disclose to you, but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site.Could you please get back to me on ( ) for the full details.
Have a nice day
Thanks God bless.

John... I have no idea what you are talking about. I do not know what Nig Interface is... nor do I know what LTSP is... Who is Chirs.....

All I wanted to do was to participate in the Webinar.... Somethig about this needs to be simplified.

Those many messages on the 11th were deleated a long time ago. If different people are running different shows. It woudl be good to have a point of contact to route and explaine how this ATS system works.

I am not following you.. I just sent you an e-mail explaining my today's plight of trying to find the webinar... "Could I send you a copy of one?" What ... what do you want me to send you a copy of. I don't know a thing about Ning...

Something is not tracking right about this - don't know if it is me or what. Maybe I have a different idea of an webinar....

John Stewart has a comment on another page that surfaces a similar problem..

Hello John,

Why am I receiveing the same e-mail over and over. I do not see any discussion taking place. Maybe a word of explanation would help.

thus far in the last 4 minutes I have received 12 e-mails from you .... and they are still coming. Somehting needs to be done differently.

Let me know.

Joy and Peace,
